This past week, around Feb. 18th, work was taking place to demolish the former home of KFI radio and its 5 studios in Los Angeles at 141 North Vermont Avenue.
This was KFI's broadcast home from summer of 1939 until late 1975.
This included a 250 seat auditorium for some live shows for KFI and /or its sister station KECA, which was in this building from summer of 1939 until 1944.
I was checking on a Web site this week that had a history of the old KFI site and photos of the past and present, including the demolition work taking place.
Someone had written that they had "heard" that Jack Benny had sometimes preferred to broadcast his NBC comedy program from the KFI auditorium studio at 141 North Vermont instead of the NBC network studios in Hollywood at Sunset and Vine, during the years Benny was with NBC.
Anybody know if this is true or not? One former KFI employee I know wasn't sure, but said the NBC studios in Hollywood were much better suited for a program like Benny's, than the KFI audience studio.
Meanwhile, if anyone wants to check out the story behind this historic radio studio complex, you can go to the link below...There's a neat 1940 photo there of the KFI/KECA building at that time.
