: I see a lot of similarities between Jack Benny lines and the lines of cartoons. Example: (forgot show title) Rochester tells Jack that every time he tries to baste the turkey, the turkey blows the candle out (this was later done in a Bugs Bunny cartoon). Also, on Jack's Christmas show (year?) everyone complains about the puny tree Jack bought, but he says all it needs is some nice decorations. Same thing that Charlie Brown did in the 60's. Maybe it's just a coincidink.

I think you'll find that many gags in cartoons of the 30's and 40's (especially the classic Warner's shorts) had many references to pop culture of the time (i.e. radio and film). Foghorn Leghorn for example is a nod to Sen. Claghorn from "Allen's Alley". Also, where Mel Blanc was essentially the voice of Warner Bros. cartoons and a Benny show regular, it stands to reason that some comedic references were more than coincidence. I remember a couple of shorts with a dept store floor walker who belted out Frank Nelson's trademark "YYEEESSS!"
