On the 3/16/47 broadcast, where Andy Russell,
Dick Haymes and Bing Crosby guest star as replacements
for the Sportsmen quartet, Bing has trouble singing
one of the tunes and blurts out: "Who the hell picked
this key, Dennis Day?" It's funny as hell, but wasn't
broadcasting the word "hell" a no-no in
those days, especially when used in that context?
Was Bing being daring, careless or just going for a
sure laugh (or all three)?
