: I have often read that Bob Hope's writers were often humiliated by their boss ie."folding up their paychecks into paper airplanes and tossing them to his writers" whereas Jack's writers were treated with respect and dignity.I believe as a result, Sam Perrin (I could be mistaken ) left Hope for Benny.
Milt Josefberg and Mel Shavellson were partners when they started with Hope on his Pepsodent show in 1938. It was Milt who left Bob for Jack. Sam had actually met Benny while in vaudeville where he was a drummer and, I'm told, sold Jack a few jokes before he became a full time writer.
