When programs were transmitted on phone lines, interruptions were common.
Recordings exist of both the East and West Coast broadcasts of a May 1941 porgram on which Jack observes his 10th radio anniversary (It's the one on which he sings his theme song from what he said was an early sponsor, "Bixby's Bonnie Biscuit Batter, for the lazy housewife. I was known as Happy Jack, your Seven O'Clock Whistle."
The West Coast broadcast was interrupted by line problems, so it begins with an orchestra remote.
The Dec. 7, 1941 West Coast broadcast was cut in by a local announcer advising residents not to panic.
