: : According to Jack's agent Irving Fein (in Fein's 1976 bio book "Jack Benny"), Jack came down with pneumonia in Chicago in 1943 while touring Army camps. His case was so bad that he spent several weeks in an oxygen tent. Fein also wrote that this 1943 bout with pneumonia was one of only two truly SERIOUS illnesses which Jack experienced in his life....the other, of course, being his final bout with pancreatic cancer.
: But, according to Joan on this forum some months ago, it was an attack of pancreatitis. I'm regularly faced with such contradicting facts about Jack and his life; I'll let you decide which one is correct.
We may never know for sure which ailment Jack was suffering from in 1943...I was just relaying where I received my "pneumonia" info. I wasn't aware of Joan's explanation....Thanks for letting me know about it.
