Period Jokes Explained?

On several of my JB tapes, there are several jokes and sometimes even things that don't seem like jokes to me that seem to get laughs from the audience. One joke involves the word Hudson and the punchline along the line of "because you have to step down to get into it." Another is a joke that connects Buick's with holes. There was even one comment that Jack made on one tape where I got the impression something fell from the ceiling and almost hit him because he made reference to "one could get killed around here."

Can someone clue me in to some of the period jokes whose meanings (and humor) are lost to time?

Michael

P.S. I'm sure I misheard, but in one PSA of Jack's he makes reference to sending "email" (which perked my ears up) or something that sounded like email.
