Okay, I was doing some more hunting on this topic...I had forgotten that the small winery town of Cucamonga was renamed in the 1980s by some
politician to Rancho Cucamonga!
By the way, did you know that in honor of the late comedian who helped put the town of Cucamonga on the map, a statue of Jack Benny and his violin has been erected in the foyer of the
baseball stadium of the minor-leauge team, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the Single-A California League?? It's been there since the team's baseball stadium was built in 1993...
Also, this ballpark is located at the corner of Jack Benny Blvd. and Rochester Ave. in Rancho Cucamonga!
To see the stadium and photo of the statue of Jack, go to this Web address:
Also, I found another link to that story called
"Jack Benny's Anaheim", but this one includes a photo of Jack being driven through Anaheim in 1947 by a local Superior Court judge, and a 1963 photo of Jack with Johnny Carson getting a key to the city, as they helped dedicate the new Anaheim Police Department station building and jail in Anahiem.
You can check it out at:
Take care, everyone.
