To answer your question about the Keefe Brasselle-hosted "Colgate Comedy Hour" show....
Yes, this was the same Colgate series that Eddie Cantor hosted on a rotating basis...However, Brasselle's hosting duty was not a direct tie-in with the Cantor bio film (although Cantor may have pushed to have Brasselle signed on as host).
This was during the period that Lou Costello had been out sick with a heart ailment (Abbott & Costello were also regular rotating hosts on the Colgate show). Brasselle was one of several "guest" hosts who filled in on the weeks that Abbott & Costello normally would have hosted.
Abbott & Costello DO appear on the Brasselle hour, but only as guests in a short sketch. It was Lou's first TV appearance after his illness, and everyone thought it best that Lou get back in the swing of things with a short sketch before resuming full-fledged hosting duties with Bud Abbott.
