Jack and his laughing fits

Postby sydneybrown » Sat Aug 20, 2005 12:44 pm

Long time fan, first time poster.

Was kinda hoping someone would have brought this up by now, but since no one has....

Is there any record video or audiowise where Jack completely loses it as all his bios have claimed he did on a regular basis? I don't mean him breaking character and giggling as he seems to do on all of his live TV shows. I mean, fall on the floor, stop the show kind of fit. They showed a brief clip of him on his HBO documentary having to leave the stage because he couldn't stop laughing during a bit with Fred Allen, but that's the only thing I've seen.

Just curious, I've read so often about how he would pound the floor in uncontrollable fits, I've always wondered if any documents exist of that.

A fairly well known one is a Nelson "ad-lib"; IIRC, he reluctantly incorporates the writers' on-the-air live script change (he is said to have protested by saying something along the lines of "c'mon guys, Jack doesn't like surprise-re-writes!" to say (again, i don't remember the actual lines) his name is "Dreer Poosan" during his bit with JB....in a joke reference to an earlier misspoken read by from Don Wilson.. who mispronounced an apparently very well known person by the name of (something along the lines of) Drew Pearson....supposedly, JB was so taken aback, that he fell to the floor laughing
.....In listening to the broadcast, there does seems to be a long, strong reaction by JB (i'm not sure it is as long as a supposed fall-to-the-floor-slapping-the-ground reaction).

Check out Jack with Bob Hope as a guest. Hope surprises Jack and the latter collapses into the former's arms. It's in our video library, and there are some stills in the photo gallery.

Drew Pearson was a very famous columnist for the Washington Post. He also was famous as a radio comentator. If you remember the Watergate scandal, you'll remember the stories by Jack Anderson, who was Pearson's protege and successor at the post after his death.
