Did Walter Tetley ever appear on a Benny show?

Postby scottp » Wed May 24, 2006 2:55 pm

I've heard a lot of Benny shows and a lot of Walter Tetley radio appearances, but I can't remember hearing of the two in the same show.

I thought of it because of an early appearance-- supposedly January 1936-- by Walter on Fred Allen's Town Hall Tonight, which is on a disk from otrcat. It's labeled "Amateur Show."

I don't remember ever hearing Walter Tetley on Jack's program, but Jack and Walter did perform together on "The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show".

It was the Christmas episode where Jack dresses up like Santa Claus for the Harris' young daughters. Phil isn't sure if Jack will fool the Harris girls, so Phil suggests that they try Jack's Santa routine on another kid...and none other than Julius Abruzzio (Tetley) drops by to deliver the groceries!

Jack gives Julius his best "Ho! Ho! Ho!" performance, but Julius isn't fooled.....and as Julius leaves he yells, "Wait'll Santa Claus finds out he's being impersonated by a bald-headed shnook!"

Jack and Walter were very funny together, with Walter mouthing off to Jack and Jack getting annoyed with his "Oh, shut up!" attitude!
