Nothing special, just a nice little gag. The self deprecation started to really flower around this time ('42).

Yes, and it also was an excellent way of helping the audience with the transition of Phil Harris from single ladies' man to newly-married husband.

To many Gags?

I've been listening to the shows from 1941 around the time that Phil got married. There seems to be so many jokes about his marriage that it was funny at first. Then after a while, I think it got be like, Ok already enough with the gags. We know he's married. Phil is one of my favorite characters, though.

Here's another good gag:
Jack's just off the plane from Africa, and the cast are wondering if he's changed since he's been away. He plants a really big kiss on Mary.
Mary: "Wow! Gee whiz Don, that trip DID do him a lot of good."
JacK: "Why, Mary, have I changed?"
Mary: "Changed? I haven't been kissed like that since I tripped and fell on a mop!"

Here's another good gag from 2-8-42:
Don and Mary are complaining about being docked pay due to daylight savings time, and about the page in their contracts written in Eskimo. Jack said that was because when the contracts were drawn up, his lawyers happened to be "Smith, Smythe, Mullen and Moose Face".
Mary: Leave it to Benny to get a lawyer that can spear fish for him too.
Jack: Mary, I retain Moose Face by the year. What's he going to do when someone isn't suing me, just sit around?
It didn't get a single laugh from the studio audience (too wacky, or maybe the delivery was too rapid fire), but I was in stitches.
