Greetings all,

My name is Al I am new to aJack Benny and this group, and I wanted to intruduce myself.

I am 44 years old, and while Jack Benny's name has always been well-known to me, I never really heard any of his radio shows or seen any of his television programs. A couple of weeks ago I got a new computer and an ipod as well. As I searched through itunes looking for things to put on my ipod, I came across old time radio shows, and one of Jack's was on there. I listened to it, and I became instantly hooked! I get such a kick out ofh im - his expressions, his voice (reminds me of a buddy of mine in St. Louis), his outbursts - I can easily see why he was considered one of the gretest comedians of the 20th centruy. I love it when I get hooked on something "new" like this, and I have been listening to his programs almost nonstop during my spare time.

One video I watched the other night really moved me. It was a New Years Eve one where Jack was stood up by his girl, and he went home. Rochester was planning to go out, but decided to stay home as well and spend Nw Years Eve with Jack, and the two toasted each other with champaigne. It was very touching.

In closing, I just want to say that I am glad to have found this group, and I am glad to be enjoying the humor of Jack Benny. Humor like his truly is timeless.

Al

Glad you joined the group. This is a group of die hard Benny fans. Well, I know I am. I am also an accidental fan but nevertheless.... I'm hooked. Welcome!

Funny - I actually found Jack almost the same way. I had bought an iPod Shuffle and found out about podcasts. I started listening to the Radio Memories network and got hooked on Comedy Thursday with Mike Tucker (at the time). After hearing Jack's "Captain Horatio Hornblower" episode from the 50's, I was hooked.
"Ship off the starboard bow!" "What kind is she?" "She's a Spanish Galleon!" "A galleon?" "Good! That's a quart for each of us!"

I'd betcha that between Ipods and satellite radio, they're probably our biggest single source of new Benny fans!
