How does Kitzel visit the show after Artie Auerbach died?

Postby Jack Benny » Mon Jun 14, 2010 10:37 pm

Laura lists this show in the video section "4/20/58 - Kitzel visits - NEW!" How is this possible when Artie Auerbach died October 3, 1957? Were shows recorded that far in advance?

Is this the episode involving Jack's trip to New York, a plumber, an elopement, and a grand prize turkey raffle? If so, yes, it was one of those "filmed in advance" episodes (usually to accomodate Mary, though she is not in this story) they would intersperse with the live shows.

Benny: So, Mr. Kitzel, are there lots of pretty girls where you are?
Kitzel: Hoo hoo HOO! They are real angels.

I just checked, and it looks like it may have been shot as early as 4/18/57, or possibly 4/29/57 (it notes revisions, which may have been script revisions or video retakes). Either way, yes, I've seen other Benny shows "sit in the can" that long, and either date puts it well in advance of Auerbach's passing.

Good catch!
