Admit it, things you just don't like in the show

and since I'm on a roll, let's add Joe Besser. I'd rather hear Andy Devine scream in my ear for an hour than two minutes of Joe on the show.

As played out as I thought Jack's toupee jokes were, some of the Don being fat ones were just as bad. So obvious.

I am probably in the minority here, but I never found Mr. Billingsley's character very funny. To each his own I guess.

Wow! I never realized how many things we dislike. Why do we call ourselves fans? Is there a Fred Allen fan club?
"Hey, Jackson, does Fred Allen always talk through his nose?"

"Yes, Phil. He's the only comedian who tells 'em and smells 'em at the same time!"

I agree. First time or two I heard him, I thought it was a great character. Then it just got lame.

I haven't listened to shows from the very early early years so I picked a random one on my Old Time Radio app for my Droid. Jack was getting his haircut from some italian guy in an italian barbershop. Jack was downright mean with his character then and the skit wasn't funny at all. Crazy how far the show came.

How about that little nervous laugh Jack would occasionally do? Love it or hate it?

I love Jack's little laugh. I rewind the tape so I can hear it again. Isn't this the Jack Benny Fan Club??

"We" dislike?
I don't agree with one single thing that gritty has said. Not one.

Come on now, this wasn't a bash the show thread. If a 35 year old like myself who wasn't even alive at the same time he was is on a JB messageboard, I obviously love the show.

I was just finding out the quirks and little things that you might not care for and if other people agree.

I hate Jack's nervous laugh sometimes, but I do like "whoop" when he heard the word million dollars or something like that.

I also get bugged at the end of a Phil Harris line when he's running out of breathe by the end of it.

Don't forget, we are an entirely different audience today. Most of us listen to these shows continuously. I may hear 10 show a day as I drive around in my car. The original audiences only could hear 1 show per week. I don't think that's often enough to get sick of anything.

I think that that nervous, high-pitched laugh was one of the funniest things that Jack did!

That is very true. I listen to OTR as I fall asleep, and Jack Benny is always in the rotation. Listening to Jack Benny shows in order has also been a great pleasure. The jokes and gags from one show are still fresh in my mind as I hear the next. They can run together that way.
