Does anyone remember a film clip of Jack talking about Daylight Saving Time? He looked very young, so I would place it in the early 1930's. He was wearing a broad-brimmed hat. I saw this in the early 1980's on a PBS documentary about the golden age of radio.
Jack tells a long story about two lovers who are planning an elopement and agree to meet at a certain place at 8:00. (Naturally, this was back before Daylight Saving Time was adopted nationwide.) The man arrives at 8:00 Daylight Saving Time and his fiancee is nowhere to be seen. He is heartbroken and jumps off a cliff. She arrives at 8:00 standard time and he is nowhere in sight. She is heartbroken and takes poison. Jack concludes: "So the only one who comes out ahead is the fella who sold her the poison. Any questions?"
Does this ring a bell for anyone, and is this clip available somewhere?
