I've been listening straight through the Jack Benny show (again!). Several times, I have come across something which makes me wonder how it was done. Sometimes its a sound effect or a routine etc. I should write them down to ask on the forum but I usually forget. One I ran across the other day kinda puzzled me. It was during a routing where Jack was talking to Mary on the phone and Rochester (or another cast member) was interupting Jack and trying to talk with him. I was trying to figure out how this was done. I know that Mary had to sound like she was on a the phone and other cast member was in the room with Jack. I know they usually used two mikes, one for the stars and one for the rest of the cast. But would they switch this up to make the routine work? Did they have an extra mike? I wondered how this might have worked.
I wondered also if I was the only one who had questions like this. Does anyone else have a "How did they do that?" moment when listening or watching the Jack Benny show? I would be curious to find out.
