Jack doing Jackie Gleason - who asked this?

Postby LLeff » Fri May 14, 2010 10:35 pm

I recently got a question about Jack doing Jackie Gleason's Joe the Bartender, and Dennis as Crazy Guggenheim. But I can't for the life of me find it now. So I'm just going to post it here.

I found this show today! I knew that I'd seen it, maybe as part of one of the tributes. But it's 2/25/64. They started the prototypical pan through the doors of Joe's Bar, I saw Jack in costume, and I punched the air saying, "SCORE!" Love finding stuff!

I mentioned it, Laura--saw it when it first was broadcast and remembered it all these years. I even remember the end of the show, with Jack saying graciously, "I do a LOUSY Gleason. But doesn't Dennis do a GREAT Crazy Guggenheim?"

Seems to me Jack did a parody of "The Honeymooners" also, playing Gleason's Ralph Kramden. I don't think this was the same show, though. Jack also did a cameo on a Honeymooners episode, playing the landlord.
"Hey, Jackson, does Fred Allen always talk through his nose?"

"Yes, Phil. He's the only comedian who tells 'em and smells 'em at the same time!"
