was well into the period when supplies were tight, the color of the
American Tobacco Company's package of Lucky Strike cigarettes was
changed from green and red to white and red. The green dye used
to make the packages was no longer available; it was being used
to dye GI uniforms and other army equipment. An order came down
from George Washington Hill that our radio commercials were to
include the phrase "Lucky Strike green has gone to war."
