I saw somewhere an explanation of why Phil Harris called Jack, Jackson. I can't find it again and was hoping someone knew. I remember that Phil said he would call Jack something else but the censors wouldn't allow it so 'Jackson' was the closest thing to it. What is true? Thanks!!!!!

Howdy Luke! On one program Jack asked Phil why he always called him Jackson, and the punchline was "'cause asking you for money is like going up against a Stone Wall!"

If there was a censored variant of "Jackson", I don't know. I think it was just his jivey, slangey way of talking, in the same way he always called Mary "Livvy".

At the risk of giving away one of the tidbits in my book, that's it. Other explanations may have been given at later times, but that was the first one.
