Definitive Dennis!

I know that many of you don't like the songs in the Benny shows, but I've come to really like some of them. The problem is there are so may episodes it is hard to remember where the great songs are. I though it might be nice if some of us would pick our favorite songs and maybe they could give others a new appreciation of singers like Dennis. Here goes:

1-21-40 "There I go" - beautiful song performed perfectly - Dennis has just turned 20 and sounds wonderful really give it a listen about 10 minutes into the show, and crank it up!

What others do you like

Most hilarious song title:

3-3-40 "Make Love With A Guitar" - pretty good though

Actually, I really liked the rework of "Clancy Lowered the Boom" into "Benny Lowered the Boom" and a Lucky Strike commercial with Dennis, Rochester and the Sportsmen on 5/2/54. The show is still be available for download on the page about the chat (last item under Featured Items on www.jackbenny.org).

Actually, I like ANY of the songs where the Benny cast members all join in and take a chorus (whether they're from early Jell-O shows or later Lucky Strike programs). These "cast participation" numbers give the show a festive, party-like quality, and it really shows the regulars as a friendly "gang" who are having fun doing the show.

Well, on the "CBS Tribute to Jack Benny - 12/29/74 - 60 minutes" that is available in the Video Library section of this website, Dennis Day describes working on the Benny Show as not being work, but getting paid to have fun. He loved to come in to "work." every Sunday. Dennis also said that You knew the writing was going to be top noch, and that you were going to have a lot of fun every Sunday.
