Other Jack Benny Performance

Postby krledu » Mon Jul 02, 2007 3:49 pm

I have been listening to the Jack Benny shows from the early to middle 40's and Jack talks a lot about other shows that he was going to do during the week. (Other than his Sunday radio program) These were shows at different military camps, March of Dimes shows, etc. I was wondering if there were any recordings or scripts available from Jack's other shows. Also, were these other shows in different format than the Jack Benny radio show or did they keep the same format with different material?

At the end of a Phil Harris-Alice Faye radio broadcast in 1950, Phil plugged an upcoming multi-city tour that he would be doing with Jack, Rochester and Vivian Blaine. Phil said that the shows would be two hours long so clearly they were different (and much longer) than the radio shows. I imagine that the greater length gave each of the performers, including Phil and his band, more of an opportunity to showcase their talents and I wouldn't be surprised if the stage shows were looser and more spontaneous than the radio programs.
