At a performance by ex-Byrd Chris Hillman, one of his accompanists was Larry Park, whose dad Ray used to do the song. Larry's version was not as exhuberant as what I'm used to hearing from Phil, but it was very well-received by the folks at McCabe's Guitar Store in Santa Monica.
Hillman has returned to his bluegrass & country roots, and can usually be found playing mandolin alongside Herb Pederson. (It makes for a rather different version of "Eight Miles High.")
