Frank Nelson as a Disc Jockey

I had no idea Frank Nelson ever hosted G.I. Jive, but you only need to hear him to say a couple of words to recognise him.

I don't know the date of the show, but I searched the minor league database for the Los Angeles Angels (PCL) player he mentioned and can't find him at all.

I'm enjoying listening to this. Thank you for posting the link!

The version of Sister Rosetta Tharpe singing "Trouble In Mind" with Lucky Millinder's Orchestra heard here is noticeably different than the commercially-released record.

These songs are great - REAL music played by truly talented men and women. What passes for music and talent today is unbelievable.

The thought just flashed through my head - what's the earliest surviving recording of Frank Nelson on the radio? Anyone know?

Laura should know offhand if the work he did on the Benny show in NYC is among the surviving audio.

I just got back in town today and am feeling too tired to pull out 39 Forever Volume 1, but I'm pretty sure this is right...Frank's very first appearance on the show is one of the lost shows. The earliest appearance that comes to mind is a show circa 1937 (toward the end of the season) where Jack is trying to make a film and is in a barrel during the scene. Frank and an actress are playing a straight love scene (or quarrel scene) while Jack's in the barrel. If you didn't know it was Frank Nelson, you could very easily miss him.

Would someone less tired than me mind reconfirming this in 39 Forever? Thanks much!
