He's Singing in the Rain with Joan Crawford.

Geez, you know, Joan made Mary look like a sweet little kitten.

Yep, that's Jack doing "Singin' in the Rain" a long time before Gene Kelly, in the finale of HOLLYWOOD REVUE OF 1929, shot in early two-color Technicolor.

The camera pans across Crawford earlier in the sequence, though, so that's not Joan standing next to Jack, although she is in the movie. Not quite sure who that is, or if she's famous - she goes by in a nanosecond in the actual film - even Jack's just a glimpse. That'd be Marie Dressler on the other side of Jack if you watch the clip. Buster Keaton's in there too.

My, my! Eddie's looking a bit prematurely gray in this ca. 1938 photo. Why?

Yep, cover of his autobiography.

Anyone read this one, is it worth hunting down a copy? I imagine it would be pretty good.

Yep, Frank Nelson in a series of McDonald's commercials circa 1981. Sad to say, I think this is the first time Frank actively entered my consciousness, though I'm sure I'd seen him on other things like I LOVE LUCY and so on. I definitely remember imitating his "ooooooooo!" squeal from these commercials much to the irritation (and my delight) of parents, teachers, etc.

Those would be pictures of the real and fictional Frankie Remley, the later aka Elliot Lewis who played him on the Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show.

Nicely played Maxwell, absolutely right.

Of course as much as I love the mental image of Frankie as a drunken bum, I feel obliged to point out that is a cap of the real Remley in costume from the hillbilly band skit on one of Jack's TV shows.
