DVD news - THE MOUSE THAT JACK BUILT

Postby Shemp » Wed Jul 13, 2005 10:57 am

The Merrie Melodies cartoon THE MOUSE THAT JACK BUILT (1959) will be released to DVD on October 25. It will be included in "The Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 3," disc 2.

Also, disc 4 will include DAFFY DUCK AND THE DINOSAUR (1939), which features a Jack-Benny-esque caveman as Daffy's adversary.

"The Looney Tunes Golden Collection" cartoons are digitally transferred from brand new 35mm prints, from completely restored negatives.

Of course, 95+% of the cartoons will feature the voice talents of Mel Blanc.

This is EXCELLENT news.....not only because people who are already Jack Benny fans (like us) will be able to enjoy a great-quality print of this cartoon, but because the inclusion of THE MOUSE THAT JACK BUILT on the latest "Golden Collection" DVD set will expose Jack and the gang to young Looney Tunes fans who may not be familiar with the Benny show...even if the characters are in animated "mouse" form!

Another thread discussed how we could put Jack Benny before the public eye again and make him popular in today's mainstream society.....Well, having THE MOUSE THAT JACK BUILT as part of a very popular DVD series that's purchased and watched by the "mainstream" public is a GREAT start!

Nice thought, Gerry, but... I doubt that simply watching THE MOUSE THAT JACK BUILT could ever inspire a child to learn more about Jack, and...

Wait a minute... Wait a minute... WAIT A MINUTE!

For those of you who didn't already know this, there once was a little girl named Laura who saw that very cartoon, which inspired her to learn more and more and more about Jack Benny...

...until she eventually formed a modest little fan club called the International Jack Benny Fan Club. Perhaps you've heard of it?

(Did I get the story right, Laura? )

Also, disc # 2 contains GOOFY GROCERIES (1941), with a Benny-ish rabbit character named... Jack Bunny.
