Driving cross country last summer I stayed over at a favorite stop in Gallup, New Mexico: The El Rancho Hotel. Very swank accomodations for '30s and '40s Hollywood filming in the area. Each room is named after a star who stayed there. I requested and got the Jack Benny room! Hilariously, it has to be the smallest, skinflint, cheapskate room in the hotel! If you're ever in the area, it is well worth a stop in, and a very reasonably priced room for the night with a lot of old Hollywood history. The staff couldn't be nicer or friendlier, either. I think there is also a Jack Benny sandwich of some kind on the restaurant menu and an autographed photo (one of many) on display. Was Buck Benny Rides again filmed near Gallup? I wonder what brought him to the area.
