It looks like Comedy Network has cancelled Jack. There has been no episode since Feb. 29.

This weekend:

Sunday, March 14, Talk TV: #74 - Jack Falls Into a Canal in Venice, 3/10/57

Next weekend:
Saturday, March 20, Talk TV: #81 - Ginger Rogers Show, 11/3/57
Sunday, March 21, Talk TV: #70 - Jack Hires an Opera Singer in Rome, 1/13/57, g.s. a then-unknown Sean Connery in a cameo

According to the people at the Comedy Network, they no longer have the broadcast rights for the program.

Jack's TV show mystery

Postby benny-allen fan » Mon Mar 15, 2004 1:14 am

yes, i was wondering why Jack's TV show isn't on anywhere nationally in the U.S.; it seems to me that whoever owns the rights to the show should strike a deal with TV Land or Nick-at-Nite or air the show on networks that'll have an audience appreciate it.

Who owns the TV rights

Postby LLeff » Mon Mar 15, 2004 2:07 am

MCA owns the rights to the syndication package, which is over 100 episodes. Both I and many IJBFC members have lobbied TV Land in writing to air Jack's show, to no avail (and no response). I am told that they aired his show at one time, but it got no ratings, so it was discontinued. Doggoneit. I'd have watched it if I'd known it was on!

low ratings?

Postby benny-allen fan » Mon Mar 15, 2004 1:17 pm

if TV Land aired the show, it was before it became a big network because i recall that when the network first came out, it barely reached nationwide. now, it seems, the channel is available for everyone. the person who claims that they ran the show before but it got low ratings i think is an unfair claim because the show would have gotten good ratings had they promoted it AND the channel been available by more customers. i didn't have TV Land until i got a different cable company...but my OLD cable company now carries it. but the point is, IF the show was run by the network before they must run it again with it's bigger audience and see what happens.

TV Land

Postby LLeff » Mon Mar 15, 2004 8:48 pm

I hear what you're saying...unfortunately, TV Land seems to be tending more towards adding shows like "Thirtysomething" and "Family Ties" to their lineup, rather than the classic shows. The person who made the claim is a very reliable source, as he's a syndicator of vintage shows. Also included in the "no ratings" was The Honeymooners, so it got put on at 2 or 3 AM. Even though I'm in the coveted 18-35 age group and would watch it, I don't know of a way to a) get TV Land/Viacom's attention, and b) convince them to give it another shot.
