Jack Benny Room - El Rancho Hotel

Postby shimp scrampi » Tue Nov 30, 2004 1:03 pm

Driving cross country last summer I stayed over at a favorite stop in Gallup, New Mexico: The El Rancho Hotel. Very swank accomodations for '30s and '40s Hollywood filming in the area. Each room is named after a star who stayed there. I requested and got the Jack Benny room! Hilariously, it has to be the smallest, skinflint, cheapskate room in the hotel! If you're ever in the area, it is well worth a stop in, and a very reasonably priced room for the night with a lot of old Hollywood history. The staff couldn't be nicer or friendlier, either. I think there is also a Jack Benny sandwich of some kind on the restaurant menu and an autographed photo (one of many) on display. Was Buck Benny Rides again filmed near Gallup? I wonder what brought him to the area.

Also take a look in our Photo Gallery in the Memorabilia section for photos of the El Rancho (and a closeup of the Jack Benny sandwich on the menu). Buck Benny was filmed on Andy Devine's ranch...I believe the cast stayed there when doing a radio show in the immediate area. I should know which one, but I haven't taken the time to triangulate it yet.
