VE Day Remembered...and a Connection with Jack Benny

Postby Maxwell » Fri May 06, 2005 5:04 pm

With the sixtieth anniversary of VE Day almost upon us, Chuck Schaden will devote eight full hours over two weeks to news and entertainment programs surrounding the end of the war in Europe.

This week's (May 7) show is mainly news but features the May 1, 1945 broadcast of Fibber McGee and Molly which is preceded by a bulletin announcing the death of Adolf Hitler.

Next week's (May 14) show is still heavy on news but concludes with the Jack Benny show from May 13, 1945, in which "Jack recalls his wartime prowess."

In the Chicago area you can hear the broadcast live from 1:00-5:00 p.m. CDT on WDCB, 90.9 FM. On the web you can hear it live at http://www.wdcb.org. Or you can wait until the following Tuesday each week and play it back at your leisure at http://www.nostalgiadigest.org

Disclaimer: I am not Chuck Schaden and I've never met him. He just happens to play a lot of Jack Benny!
