I've been called "greedy and unseemly" by Chicago columnist Eric Zorn. What a hoot!

To be fair, Laura, it is unclear, given Mr. Zorn's incredibly poor syntax ,whether he is calling YOU greedy and unseemly or your EFFORTS greedy and unseemly.

Frankly, I don't see any reason to call EITHER Laura OR the efforts "greedy and unseemly". Mr. Zorn obviously has a problem with the whole "Jack On A Stamp" project....Perhaps Mr. Zorn has his OWN "favorite famous dead person" that he's pushing to get on the new stamp and we're gumming things up for him!

Jack Benny wrote:Jack: Phil, I know I for a fact that before the show, you looked at the script then asked Rochester if he had pressed my pants wrong and that's why the were unseemly!
I could see that working even better as a play on com-PLEAT-ly...
I very much appreciate David's suggestion of funneling any righteous indignation into more solicitation of the people who matter. On the flip side, I recently heard Maureen Dowd make the statement, "Controversy sells books." So as I learn more about publicity, the thought had crossed my mind that we could do something with this!
Speaking personally, I think his statement is hillarious and bear no ill feelings about it. People take public swipes at "important" people, so I guess this boosts the perceived level of importance of the campagin.
Think of how Jack dealt with Gilbert Seldes. Nuff said.

Gee, I hope not. But I should take this opportunity to say that I very much appreciate how "adult" and "professional" everyone is here on all topics, having fun but never degenerating into unproductive banter.
