Interesting Jack Benny DVD listing on Amazon

I was browsing on Amazon the other day, looking for DVDs of Jack Benny tv shows that I might want. It's rather disappointing because none of the listings that I've seen tell what episodes are on them. However, I did find a VERY interesting listing.

I realize that all of the DVDs available contain only the public domain episodes, and so pretty much anybody can sell whatever they want out of those episodes. You would think, however, that the companies would at least do their homework and find an appropriate picture to use on their cover. This company obviously thinks they did, but the problem is, the main picture on the cover isn't Jack Benny...it's Eddie Carroll! I e-mailed the link to him, and he said he'd take care of it.

Heh! I posted the same thing yesterday...and spoke to Eddie last night. He's having his lawyer get in touch with the company. Best bet: they didn't want to go through the Benny estate to get permission to use a photo of Jack...so they thought they'd lift a "free" one off the Internet. Except, of course, it's copyrighted.

I have to confess: Carolyn Carroll told me in an email to look up the item, so you have the right of first disccovery, Ethan! I called Eddie to tell him about ANOTHER photo, in a Disney fan magazine, of him signing autographs as Jiminy Cricket, and he told me he's having his lawyers look into it. He doesn't expect a big monetary result, but it is, after all, a matter of copyright.

How do you edit? I can't find an edit button! Anyway, I wanted to clarify that the photo in the Disney fan magazine was just a good picture of Eddie, looking very cheerful indeed, and I just thought he might like to have a copy. His lawyers are looking into the matter of the Benny photo, obviously. I'm not at my sharpest on weekends....

Not a problem. I figured that was what you were referring to. In his e-mail response to me, he told me it would be checked into.

I just met him a couple of weeks ago after seeing his show in the Dallas area. I took 2 friends with me, and all 3 of us absolutely loved his show. I wish his show was available on a DVD, as I could watch it over and over.

Hmm..nope, no edit button for me! Just the quote button, all by itself. Eddie said Dallas kept him busy, btw, and also said that the weather was more like North Dakota!

I don't remember what the weather was like that weekend. It's fluctuated quite a bit in the past several weeks, though.
