"Jack's Big Music Show" is a puppet show for preschoolers that appears on Noggin and (I believe) Nick Jr. Since I have a preschooler of my own, I've been seeing it a lot lately.

Anyway, the creators of this show have said that "the whole show was inspired by old radio and TV programs that we love. In particular, The Jack Benny Show and The Little Rascals." The Jack Benny influence is not evident from the humor or the content as such, but it does show up clearly in names and the odd other reference now and then. Some examples:

The regular puppet characters are named Jack, Mary, and Mel (as in Blanc).

Appearing semi-regularly is a puppet singing group called "The Schwartzman Quartet."

In one episode the Quartet sings the line, "You can call Uncle Benny in Waukegan."

In another episode Jack picks up a violin and plays that familiar eight-note Kreutzer exercise.

In yet another episode a blast from a magical bugle turns Jack into a rabbit, and thereafter Mary calls him "Jack Bunny."

Anyway, it's pretty good fun, and it's nice to see that Jack and his work are still providing inspiration for creative people in the entertainment field!

Shows like "Bullwinkle" included many little things that went over the heads of the main audience of kids, but their parents got them.
I'm afraid this one has little things that go over the heads of the kids, AND the vast majority of their parents too!
