I'd expect at least his fast-talking OVER dramatic delivery would have been parodied on a comedy show. Of course that wouldn't apply to only him.
It's the outlandish tales that make me want to... hit some thing or some body. Where a famous person appears at every turn... such as, Jack Dempsey told an agile, graceful kid he faced in an exhibition bout, that he should use his skills in some other way... and that kid was Arthur Murray, later the famous dance instructor! And Dempsey himself had once been on the verge of giving up his dreams until a vaudeville entertainer gave him a pep talk. And that entertainer was... Jack Benny!
The disclaimer about the stories was "Some myth... some hearsay"-- but it seems those two categories cover at least 90% of the stories.
