Jack's Violins in PARADE 1/29/06

Postby Brad from Georgia » Sun Jan 29, 2006 6:46 am

Gladys Erdheim of Pembroke Pines, FL, asked the editors of Parade Magazine what became of Jack's violin. The response says that in real life, Jack was anything but cheap and mentions his many donations: in 1943, he donated a violin to the war-bond drive that wound up bringing in a million dollars; he gave another of his violins to Wayne Newton; and his will left his Stradivarius and another valuable violin to the L.A. Philharmonic.

And Parade called me for that information.

It was WILD seeing a picture of Jack in a current issue of PARADE....What a nice change from the usual Sunday mug shots of Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Paris Hilton!

It was a refreshing change and surprise to see something about JB in a current publication. Most of the time it seems that JB is overlooked and forgotten by today's pop society.
Ehhhhhh, what's up doc?

You ain't whistlin' Dixie. When I was doing the 39 Forever convention and contacting groups like Entertainment Tonight, Extra, Hollywood Today, etc., they were interested only in "A list" celebrities. So if it isn't Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Tyra Banks, Colin Farrell, or Paris Hilton, then they're not interested. Hollywood is a hard place and if you haven't done anything lately, it's tough to get people to listen.

Tell me about it.....Sometimes I feel like Jack expecting his friends to dance to his "Cohen On The Telephone" record!

You know what's really ironic? Just this evening I got a look at the piece with Jack, and then I scanned the other celebs mentioned in the columns. And there's Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Paris Hilton. No Tyra Banks or Colin Farrell...I guess I should have said Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas.

Things are getting pretty bad when young people are referring to Michael Douglas as "that old man who's married to Catherine Zeta-Jones"!

Talking about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones reminds me of the following Benny bit.

Jack: Yessir, I remember playing the Orpheum in Vancouver when I was in vaudeville.

Mary: Jack, do you remember a little girl with blonde curls with ribbons in her hair who used to sit in the front row of the Orpheum?

Jack: Why Mary, were you that little girl?

Mary: No, that was my mother.
