My wild guess, based on the joke, is the middle one must be Nelson Eddy.

Isn't the last picture reversed?

OK, Nelson Eddy would make sense. Was he a mountie or an Eskimo in that movie? :D I almost thought it was JACK in the parka. Darn Maxwell and seeing Henny Youngman, this thread is making me doubt my eyes.

So, Doorman, Nelson Eddy, and Drear Pooson in that last picture.

Almost there...almost there....Doorman, check. Drear, check. Now what was Frank Nelson SUPPOSED to say? Think in terms of Arctic exploration....

Hmm... was there an "Admiral Byrd" variant of the supposed original reply? I've heard the "who do you think I am, Nelson Eddy?", and then there's the REAL one from the script:

Yes, but that was in a different show, wasn't it, SS?

LOL, I don't know where the Byrd comes from, ask Brad!

The Dreer Pooson thing was the Jan 8, 1950 show, with the "as broadcast" script bit reproduced above. I've always heard the anecdote that the original line was "who do you think I am in this outfit, Nelson Eddy?", but the script has the clothes rack gag instead. But the anecdote also usually says the writers were futzing with the line, so Byrd might have been in at some point.

I heard the original line was supposed to be, "Who do you think I am in this outfit, Henny Youngman?"

Well, I had listened recently to Frank Nelson telling an interviewer, "I was supposed to say, 'Well, who did you think I was in this uniform, Admiral Byrd?'" So there.

And I flopped the photo of Drew because that was the closest I could come visually to turning "Drew Pearson" to "Drear Pooson."

The great thing is that ANY of those lines would've been funny coming out of Frank Nelson, though of course only "Dreer Pooson" would break Jack up!

And very clever on the flipped Pearson Brad!

Yes! Everyone take a look at your illustrious forebearers from 50 years ago, the December 1959 incarnation of Jack's Fan Club. This episode will be a little spooky to anyone who's been around these parts for awhile ... part of the meeting agenda is getting Jack's face on a SIX cent stamp!

Next up, Jack's helping out a couple of Beverly Hills Beavers and meets this nurse. Who is she?
