I was just wondering how much The Jack Benny Show comprises the listening time of IJBFC visitors.

Comedy-wise I think Jack is tops. With the exception of a little Burns and Allen as well as Phil & Alice, I don't listen to too many other OTR comedy series regularly. But I do like a lot of OTR thrillers and scary stuff, so I listen to those dramatic series, taken all together, almost as much as Jack Benny, maybe a little less. And, Oh, no, Rochester, NY again! :P

I like Jack along with many other favorites, including Edgar Bergen, The Great Gildersleeve, and The Bickersons.

For non-comedy I watch movies.

I've been listening to quite a lot of "The Phil Harris and Alice Faye Show." Just today, I decided to listen to some of my favorite SCI-FI with "X minus One," my favorite episode came on, "A Gun for Dinosaur," if that episode can't make people say, "Hey, this old time radio stuff is pretty good," then nothing can - except maybe some Jack Benny from 1948.

Jack meets Sci-Fi

If you want the best of comedy and sci-fi, check out the Harris-Faye show from 4-2-50, it's hilarious. It's loosely based on the "Roswell Flying Saucer crash" mythos. Remley sees a saucer out in the desert outside Palm Springs, and Remley, Alice, and Phil go out to investigate - they arrive out in a lonely spot and find mysterious, twisted metal parts. Brushing away the sand, they discover that it's:

(Spoiler - don't read further if you don't want to know)

Jack's Maxwell! Then there's a whole scheme to pass it off as real and make Julius look like an alien by blowing up his head with a bicycle pump. Super-funny stuff.

The only other OTR comedies I listen to are the occassional Burns and Allen, "Our Miss Brooks" (surprisingly funny), and "You Bet Your Life." I've tried to get into Fred Allen, but can't -- Jack would approve. But I do like other OTR shows -- "Suspense," and "Lights Out" come to mind. Oh, and the panelists on "Information Please" are often so witty and funny that it could almost count as a comedy.
