I was watching Bob Sirott's "Chicago Tonight" TV show, and one of his guests just happened to be Chuck Schaden, who will be celebrating 35 years on the air Saturday.
The segment opened with a clip of Jack Benny and Rochester:
Jack: Rochester, what are you doing?
Rochester: Just cutting your hair, boss. Why don't you put it on to see how it looks?
(The only other OTR clip was Magee's closet.)
Later Sirott mentioned Jack Benny month back in February.
The high point was a photo of Schaden inteviewing Jack in September of 1970, a few months after Schaden's show first aired. He said that Jack was very gracious to him and "even though he probably had told the stories hundreds of times, he told them to me as if it was the very first time." He also was obviously quite impressed that Jack would give an interview to a guy who at the time had been on the air for four months on a 1000-watt station in Evanston, IL.
Schaden also noted an interesting coincidence: his show debuted on May 2, the same date as Jack Benny's first broadcast.
