I'm obviously a little over-programmed

I was just reading an online version of Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Essay on Self-Reliance" (a long-time favorite), and came across this line:

"When we discern justice, when we discern truth, we do nothing of ourselves, but allow a passage to its beams. If we ask whence this comes, if we seek to pry into the soul that causes, all philosophy is at fault. "

And my natural response was: "WHENCE!"

Oddly enough, my natural response was, "Huh?"

And my natural response for this would be:

Jack: "Well.....I think......" at which point Mary would jump in with a rather harsh "OH SHUT UP!".

Phil Harris might say:
"I don't get that hifalutin' stuff, but I sure love his show!"
(What show?)
"Didn't you say Ralph Emerson? Ain't he the guy on TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES?"
