Magazine Trivia (Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show)

Postby scottp » Mon Oct 24, 2005 5:12 am

I heard a 1948 show in which the friendly Rexall druggist told listeners to look for a double-page ad about the largest-ever Rexall 1 Cent Sale. He mentioned five magazines it would be in.
If you can name one it's worth 5 points.
Two is worth 20 points.
Three is worth 50 points.
Four is worth 100 points.
Five is worth 500 points (no one would ever guess it!)
Unfortunately, the points aren't worth anything...

I know that one was "Collier's". I remember that one because the Rexall Druggist's dentures sounded like they were slipping when he said it!

Okay, I would guess "Collier's", "Look," "Life," "The Saturday Evening Post," and, um...."Good Housekeeping."

Probably not "Sax and Violins: The Magazine of the Modern Orchestra," though.

Brad has four right.

The fifth one I had never heard of, but it turns out it's still around. You might say it was a good choice, considering a certain item Phil was known for dispensing.

I seem to recall listening to one of these shows during the past several months....and for some odd reason, the only title I *thought* I remembered was "Farm Journal".

That's the one! (Phil could have told them a thing or two about "corn.")

Shows what a different country this was then.
