The Horn Blows at Midnight was my first exposure to Jack Benny. Channel 5 in New York used to show it every New Year's Eve. For my brother and I, it was a great treat to be able to stay awake past midnight watching this great movie in our parents' bedroom while they celebrated New Years with their friends in the dining room. I read later that Jack used to make fun of The Horn Blows at Midnight as a terrible movie but we loved it. There was something so funny and endearing to us about clueless innocent Jack being sent to Earth and trying to make his way through the craziness of New York City restaurants, hotels, elevators, etc. to blow up the world.

I saw "Horn Blows At Midnight" years ago on TV. While I am sure there are better movies, I do'nt think the movie was so bad for Jack to make jokes about it the rest of his career. I would watch it again..

I think that the slapstick climax with the giant Times Square coffee billboard is a CLASSIC bit of business. It was very different from Jack's usual style of comedy, but it was lively and worked very well....and the great background music during that scene sounds like something straight from a 1940's or 50's Warner Brothers cartoon!

I think that Jack felt confident in making jokes about what a terrible film "The Horn Blows At Midnight" was because deep down, he KNEW that it wasn't that bad of a film.
