However, I did hear Schaeden mention the stamp campaign and got a taste of Jack's performance in "The Man Who Came to Dinner" - he also mentioned this very nice article in the Chicago Tribune, featuring Laura and the stamp campaign:

I'm sure that there were a number of Tribune readers who signed the petition based on what I saw when I checked the petition after Schaden's broadcast. I did recognize the names of Schaden and his wife, and somewhere in the same vacinity (and therefore before Schaden's announcement) was the name of Walter E. Smithe, Jr., who owns a large furniture store in Chicago.

[BTW, due to the fact that I write an internet column about the Chicago White Sox, I am already registered at the Tribune web site. They don't really bug you with any email or anything like that if you register (and as a Sox fan, that's about the best I can say about the Trib).]

Schaden gave the URL for the fan club site and repeated it several times in both of his announcements, so I'm sure there will be a pretty good response based on just that.

From the Savannah Morning News 'vox populi', a little column where they seem to compile unattributed quotes of the day (is this 'one wag' at work?):

"I heard there is a campaign for the new 39-cent stamp to have Jack Benny's picture on it. He was 39 forever. Does that mean that the stamp is going to stay 39 cents?"

That's the whole enchilada on the stamp campaign in this article, nothing else relevant - but I think it's a memorable little buzz-generator.

I just saw the designs of the two Jack Benny stamps and love both of them. I've made my purchase of one sheet of each (and wish I could afford more right now...but I just had to buy a new furnace, so that cut deeply into my discretionary spending).

I have received the Jack Benny stamps, and I am pleased! Thank you, Laura (and Jack). Just in time for the holidays. These stamps will also be parceled out (pun intended) this year for special events: upcoming birthday, aniversary, Valentines Day (of course), etc. etc. greetings to family and friends. Thanks to relatives, we STILL come across old special occasion letters, written by grandparents to great-grandparents or great-great granparents. These old letters are still in the original, stamped envelopes, no less! The Jack Benny stamps should make for interesting conversation generations from now.
Usual mail...phone, electric, cable bill, will just have to be usual stamps!
Maybe the IRS would appreciate the Jack Benny stamp?
