Filmed Benny Radio Show?

Postby Jack Benny » Tue Mar 21, 2006 12:52 am

I love to watch the "Camp Haan" Video Clips on this site, but I would like to see more. Is this whole show available somewhere? Is there any other filmed footage from any of the Benny radio broadcasts? The closest thing I can think of is when Jack performed his New Years Fantasy skit on TV, but presented it in the format of the radio show.

I agree about the Camp Haan clips. It was interesting to see how they performed a radio show before an audience, with Jack and Mary at one mike and the other castmembers at another. I also noticed how Phil, Rochester and Dennis each bowed to the audience after the audience applauded their entrance. A nice touch. And I was surprised to see that Phil really played to the audience while Dennis and Rochester pretty much stuck to just reading the script with little extra acting. What most intrigued me though was the very different hand and face gestures that Jack used as compared to the ones I remember from his television days. None of the hand to the cheek stuff or the pitying looks to the audience. Somehow, he looked more sophisticated and debonair than I remembered him from television.

I was quite surprised by the difference....not only from TV, but anything else (admittedly limited) i have seen.

I think it works very well....

Who knows; maybe JB could have gone the route of developing a bit of a William Powell-esque element in his persona?
