non JB show appearances

Postby epeterd » Mon Aug 07, 2006 7:41 pm

Hi everyone. I'm wondering how many appearances Jack made on shows other than his own, especially on non-comedy shows. I've heard a couple, both Suspense I think, on XM. One where he robs a bank for someone else, and when he realizes what he did he tries to turn himself in but no one believes him. The other is a show where he retires from a job and he's given his desk fom work. He had stolen some money from the company and hidden it in the desk. Both are good shows.
BTW, just last week they played a Suspense episode with Jim and Marian Jordan playing a couple who have a murderer hide in their car while they are at a movie. Good show. Heard that with a different couple also, but can't remember who.

You should check out the show for next month's chat...it's another Suspense episode.

http://radiogoldindex.com/frame1.html is a great source. Once you start searching, you won't be able to stop. I can't anyway!

I can think of 4 Suspense episodes where Jack was guest:
The two you mentioned are: "The Face is Familiar" where he is tricked into robbing a bank, and "A Good and Faithful Servant" where he WORKS in a bank. There's always a few quick "wink, wink" moments where he comments about money!
The other two: one I think is called "Plan X" where he plays a... hmm, maybe I'll wait until after the chat. I think that is the one Laura has planned! I don't want to give away anything!
The other one is called "Murder in G Flat" or some such title. He plays a piano tuner.

There is also a show from 1938... Lux Radio Theatre, or something like it. Both he and Mary are the guests. It is called the Seven Keys of Baldplate It is interesting to listen to.

These are the ones I own, have heard, and I know are generally available.

All of Jack's known appearances have been listed by Laura and are right here on this website:

Thanks. That's a lot of shows. I need to listen to the one Laura posted for the month. I was generally interested in the ones on Suspense. It's fun to hear comedians in different types of roles such as in the Fibber & Molly Suspense episode. I heard part of the "Seven Keys..." show recently on XM but unfortunately I wasn't able to catch the whole thing. Since he did the Fiddler, he should have been on The Whistler at some point. Oh well.

He also appeared on Lux Radio Theater in "Killer Kates" on December 16, 1946.
