Jacks movies are underrated

Postby ZEjackbennykid » Tue Dec 19, 2006 7:18 pm

I was watching Buck Benny Rides Again and Love Thy Neighbor and they are not as bad as people say. In fact they are early prototypes for the way tv shows are made into films. I use the argument that both were written by Morrow and Beloin who wrote for the show, so its their jokes that are translated on screen. Its similar to how jokes from the honeymooners show were brought in for the film version of the honeymooners.

"Buck Benny Rides Again" is a lot of fun and always goes over well with audiences whenever I screen my 16mm print of it.

As for "Love Thy Neighbor", that film usually gets a bum rap because reviewers don't like the subplots and musical numbers getting in the way of Jack and Fred's arguing....but be honest, would any of you REALLY want to see two guys insulting each other for an hour and a half? There HAD to be something to break up the fighting, and I think that "Love Thy Neighbor" is a light, enjoyable film....plus it gives us a chance to see Mary Kelly in action! ("I get around, Kid!")

I have a theory that Love Thy Neighbor is somewhat of a sequel to Buck Benny because the story between Rochester and that maid is continued. But also it jhust feels like a sequel.

I remember watching The Horn Blows at Midnight for a number of years on New Years Eve. My brother and I loved it (and it was a special treat for us because we got to stay up late to watch it). This was years before we really knew who Jack was or his comic persona. We just found it funny.
