Mr. Kitzel's Show

Postby Yhtapmys » Sat Sep 20, 2008 1:59 am

I was surprised to hear on one of our monthly chats there was an audition transcription for a radio sitcom staring Mr. Kitzel. Well, lo and behold, I found it by accident:

Will Wright is also on this show, doing his old-timer voice. I'm afraid I lost interest after about five minutes. The best part is the singing plug to potential sponsors to pick up the show. I think that's Del Sharbutt announcing; it sure sounds like him.

If someone knows the background behind the creation of this audition, I'd be interested in reading about it.

While we're playing old radio shows, here's a low-quality version of an audition Frank Fontaine did for a programme:

He opens with his John L.C. Sivoney character. Harry Von Zell is his announcer.

The singing plug was sung by The Starlighters.

It seems to me I've run across that plot before with the street construction threatening all the businesses. Wasn't it that Edward G. Robinson movie where he buys a luggage store as a front for tunneling into the bank vault next door?

At any rate, I can see why it didn't sell. It wasn't very good.

Sounds vaguely like "Barbershop" :) OK, maybe they weren't stealing from something that came *after* them...
