This is my first post on the IJBFC site, although I've been redaing it quite a while~!
Back in 1989/1990, I did research for a Jack Benny episode log. My research included obtaining the NBC Program Analysis Sheets from the Library of Congress, and Jack's personal papers from the University of Wyoming. I intendd to publish a book on the Benny show in the 1940's. That plan fell by the wayside, but now 18 years later I decided to put my work up on the web, with a twist.
Although it's not as comprehensive as 39 Forever, I've begun my Jack Benny episode guide on the web. (http://sites.google.com/site/jackbennyinthe1940s/Home).
I’ve started uploading the episode logs first with the details of my research back in 1990, from my original notes. It’s a work in progress, because I have a lot more information to upload from my original notes of listening to the episodes: I’ll be putting that info up in the weeks to come. So far, seasons 1945-1946, 1946-1947, and 1947-1948 have been uploaded.
I’d like the site to be a resource to the Jack Benny fan community online. There are now approx. over 350 episodes available online, but…which ones do you download first? Which are the funniest? The least funniest? The weirdest?
To that end, the twist is: instead of being just a listing of episode titles and guest stars, I’d like to take a page from the Grateful Dead community. There are books called “Grateful Dead Taper Compendiums”, wherein fans review each show, with their take on it plus any other interesting tidbits. I’d like to have my site be the same sort of resource.
To that end, anyone who would like to send in a review of a particular episode/episodes, just send it in to my email address listed on the web site, and I’ll upload it (with full credit of course). Your favorites, least favorites, whichever. I think it could end up being a fun exercise and a nice resource for the community.
I hope you all won’t think this is a thread crap, or a overtly commercial post; if I’ve offended anybody in that regard I really do apologize.
Thanks so much
Bill
