Jack, Frankie, Mahlon and Shep!

Hi gang, just saw a very funny Jack Benny Program for the very first time - an episode with Frankie Avalon, who's "cutting a record down the hall" from Jack's television studio. Jack sits in on the recording session. Mahlon Merrick conducts the small band ( nice to see Merrick on-screen for several minutes! ), and Jack accidentally discovers a gimmicky, "new" sound for Frankie's recording - a gurgling water cooler!

Of course, it entered MY mind that sweet band-leader Shep Fields blew bubbles into a glass of water at the beginning of his records and radio broadcasts, thirty years prior to Jack's gurgly sounds for Frankie!

Yeah, but Shep had rippling rhythms, not gurgling rhythms!

Shep's kind of like Lawrence Welk, but with sound effects. Mahlon Merrick wrote a lot of cues for Capitol aka the "infamous" John Seely Music service, used bye endless television programs and commercials and such for years, during the 1950s to mid 196s, especially. Great first name.
