Heard on Sirius Radio

Postby Maxwell » Wed Jan 07, 2009 4:57 pm

I finally got a Sirius Radio (okay, my son got it for me) and have been spending a lot of time on the '40s music and the OTR channel. Yesterday on the music channel at different times, I heard the following selections that are definitely Benny related:

"You Can't Be True, Dear," sung by the Sportsmen Quartet. I'm guessing it was from between 1942 and 1944 since they were accompanies by a vocal group rather than an orchestrs.

"Love in Bloom," sung by Bing Crosby.

I imagine Jack will be around somewhere on the OTR channel. Unfortunately its not when I'm driving.

"You Can't Be True, Dear" was recorded in March 1948 for Capitol Records during the musicians strike. The Sportsmen are accompanying themselves on the record.

Oops...I forgot about the second strike. Thanks for the info. Were they actually multi-tracking on that recording? (I'm sure I heard more than four voices at a time, and I'm not sure when they started actually doing that.)

It was multi tracked. Did they several records like that including "Woody Woodpecker" w/ Mel Blanc.

Once again, thanks for the information. You've helped fill a hole in my knowledge of recordings.

Right now Jack is on at 11:30am and 11:30pm I believe.

And I would highly suggest getting the Indoor boombox for the Sirius. They run about $100 but it is more than worth it!

Yeah, I've heard Jack's show a couple of times (weekends) since I posted this. What I've been doing so far when I'm not driving is using their internet radio feed.
