Old CBS Xmas spot with woodsmen and birds

Postby scottp » Thu Jan 29, 2009 10:35 am

I can tell from some of y'all's posts that there are some real "TV archive hounds" (or would it be "nerds"?) around here.
Anyone remember this from circa 1970, a little CBS spot they ran at Holiday Time?
It was an animated cartoon, of two woodsmen trudging through snow carrying a "two-man saw." The find a tree they want to cut down, but then a bird is heard singing high up in the tree. Other birds join in (but I can't remember if there are any other forest animals involved.)
The woodsmen can't bring themselves to cut the tree, so through the magic of animation, their two-man saw becomes a musical saw, and they accompany the birds' song.
I know they brought it back for at least a second year...

Wow! You just brought back a long-forgotten memory. As I recall it, the music was all a single violin, but I really don't remember much else. I'd love to see it again to see how well I remember it.

I certainly could have mangled it to that degree, in my memory... ("two-man saw" etc.) but I'm surprised to find the tune is "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" which I think I would have recognized at the time, and should have recalled, through the years.
I'll post a comment at YouTube just in case there was another version.
